rain on April Fools;
beside the parking lot
magnolia laughs
beside the parking lot
magnolia laughs
..................................................-Andromeda Jazmon
If you've had to park under one of these trees you'll get the joke. As beautiful as they are, they are the messiest trees I know. They are always dropping sticks, leaves, sloughed-off hulls or ugly brown spent petals. I park my car on the other side of the lot and walk over to take their picture.
The haiku prompt at One Single Impression this week is laughter. April is National Poetry Month. I plan to post a haiga (haiku and image) every day.

From now on, I will think of this as a happy flower! Thanks for joining in.

Years ago we lived in a house where someone had planted a magnolia tree by the pool... most of my time was spent scooping out the nasty sloughed petals when it was done with its glorious blooming...
Great visuals! I would immediately suspect them of mischief, but maybe they are just enjoying the rain.
Oh NO Tadmack. The POOL?! That is terrible.
Lovely picture and poem. Bet you were the one doing the laughing when you parked far way from that magnolia :))
Beautiful photo but I didn't know that about those trees either.
I guess the rain could be the magnolia falling down
great haiku
i can just feel the laughter from those magnificent magnolias in your words. btw...is it raining on the day of april fools or on the april fools themselves?? i wondered...
My mother-in-law lived in Williamsburg, Virginia, for many years. My husband, daughter, and I used to love to visit her during school break in April. The weather was always so much more springlike there than in Massachusetts. And I loved to see all the magnolia trees in bloom. I wasn't aware of how messy they could be.
Love your photograph and haiku!
You have all got it! I am laughing because I remembered not to park under them, they are laughing because they know how beautiful and messy they are, they are in the rain and they plan to rain down petals next week... it's all a party over here!
Oh, I "get it". Pecan Trees are also very messy! Sure, we get Pecans, but we also get tassles, pollen, limb crashes and the fall leaves to rake. My Dad is 79 and I'm wondering why in the world I bought a house in an old Pecan Orchard!
have always loved magnolias... every year i tell myself im gonna buy that tree this year and put it over there.. maybe not..
A good tree to visit, I would say. I photographed one last year on a visit to our town hall. Great photo and poem.
I suddenly can visualize magnolias laughing at the joy of spring and of being alive another season. Your poem has lifted my spirits!
Bloomin laughter! Ya gotta love it!
