A Book Request

from the window

OK Kidlitopians, I have a question for you.

About grown up books.

What are the best books out there on menopause?

This is something I know nothing at all about and I am getting some twinges that I ought to study up on... anyone else been through this? What do you recommend?

Dear Cloudscome, I've read a ton of books on this subject. You're smart to read on your own because most MD's know very little about hormones.

Good basics:

The Wisdom of Menopause (Christiane Northrup)

Natural Woman, Natural Menopause (Marcus Laux and Christine Conrad)

What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause
(John R. Lee)

Natural Hormone Balance for Women (Uzzi Reiss)

Screaming to be Heard (Elizabeth Vliet) - she covers hormones through all phases of a woman's life, not just meno.

Also, a must-see website with good resource articles and a great message board: power-surge.com.

Finally, check out project-aware.org for the 35 symptoms of menopause. It will put your mind at ease (or not)!

Good luck. Feel free to email me if you have any other questions - jamesmargaret3rd (at) yahoo.com.

Jama, thanks so much for those links! I am reading them and I am finding a lot of helpful information. I went out and bought flax seed oil and a black cohash compound tablet. I asked for gluten free, since I have Celiac disease, and the woman in the health food store assured me it was. When I got home I saw it has wheat in it, so I am taking it back today. I will find the right one yet! I am going to look for those books too.

Can you tolerate soy? I drink a soy smoothie with ground flax/flaxseed oil every morning. I'm surprised the health food store didn't know about the wheat. I'm not celiac, but wheat sensitive, and I've found it in almost everything. Very hard to avoid. Good luck.
